Darrell Dean Worth, 89, of Woonsocket, formerly of Gettysburg, passed away Friday, February 8, 2013 at Prairie View Care Center in Woonsocket.

Memorial Services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, February 14, 2013, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Gettysburg with Fr. Jerry Kopel officiating. Burial of his cremains followed in the church cemetery.

Darrell Dean Worth was born May 16, 1923 in Gettysburg, South Dakota to John and Robbie (Harvey) Worth. He attended and graduated from Gettysburg High School. Following his schooling Dean enlisted with the United States Navy, serving from 1942 to 1944.

On May 19, 1949 Dean was united in marriage to Dorothy “Dottie” Bichler in Los Angeles, CA. They made their home there where they were blessed with three children. In 1962 they moved to Gettysburg, SD where Dean worked as a carpenter, farmer and as an attendant with the local Cenex Station. In October 2011, Dean and Dottie moved to Woonsocket.

Dean enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was a member of the American Legion, and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. and D.A.V.

Those left to cherish his life are Dean’s children: Gary (Carol) Worth of Huron, Robbie (Randy) Kogel of Sioux Falls, and Tom (Donna) Worth of Woonsocket; his grandchildren: Kevin, Keith and Kasey (Heather) Kogel, Kandi (Adam) Seeman and Kylie (Rasheed) Hodge; great grandchildren: Tyson & Tate Kogel, Jimmy and Madden Seeman, and Dreavin & Keanin Hodge; and step great grandchildren: Rasheed Hodge Jr. and Brittany Hodge.

Dean was preceded in death by his wife, Dottie; his parents; his sisters: Florence Stankey, Myrtle Mertz, Kathryn Mangin, Lucy Worth, Lorrayne Schnurrer, and Dorothy J. Worth; and his brothers: Robert, Wayne and Quentin Worth.

Luce Funeral Home of Gettysburg has been entrusted with Dean’s arrangements.
