Colette LeBeau - Iron Hawk, 65, of LaPlant, passed away, Tuesday, February 19, 2013 at Rapid City Regional Hospital.

A procession formed at 5:00 p.m., at the 4 miles junction, east of town.

Colette Phyllis LeBeau-Iron Hawk was born to Lucille Ziegler and Phillip LeBeau at the Old Cheyenne Agency on March 24, 1947.

From a former union Colette had two daughters:  Anjanette Rhene and Kellie LeBeau; and a son, Stanley Olsen.  Colette married Seborn Iron Hawk, a disabled US Marine Corp Vietnam Veteran.  And together they had Destry and Nicolette.  She also raised her grandkids Daniel LeBeau; Arlen, Colette, Merlin, Jr, Maggie, & LaDawn Bruguier; and Lynsey & Lavera (Littleton) LeBeau.

Colette lived in many different areas of the US until she made her home on the Cheyenne River Sioux Reservation in 1978.  She worked for the Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe for 28 years in many capacities, one as an employee of the Manpower/Job Training Program.  She was elected Tribal Secretary in 1998 for (2) terms and retired as an Elected Official in 2006.  She then stayed home to take care of her beloved Mother, Lucille until her passing in March 2012.  She attended many sun dances, Lakota ceremonies and sang many Dakota Christian songs. Living in two worlds, she continued to maintain her Lakota style and culture.

Colette loved living in the country and being close to nature.  She loved her early morning coffee while watching the sun come up.  She is known as a positive person with lots of energy and motivation. She liked humorous, witty, level-headed people and those who love music, dancing, literature, and the outdoors.  She truly loved her children and grandchildren with all her heart.  She had unlimited compassion in assisting and helping others.

She is survived by her husband Seborn Iron Hawk; sisters Lavera LeVell of Carter Lake, Iowa, Francine (Robert) Iron Wing of Laplant, SD, Karen (Jeff ) Garreau, Aberdeen, SD, & Wendy (Terry O’Neal) LeBeau of Eagle Butte, SD; her brothers Hank (Sherri) LeBeau, San Jose, CA, Corbin LeBeau, Arizona and Bob Pretty Boy, Eagle Butte, SD; daughters:  Anjanette LeBeau, Kellie LeBeau, Nicolette Iron Hawk, all of Eagle Butte, SD.  Sons:  Stanley Olsen, Carter Lake, Iowa and Destry Iron Hawk of LaPlant, SD.   and many nieces and nephews, and many grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her mother & step father Lucille & John Frenier; her father Phillip LeBeau, step-mother Myrtle LeBeau; brothers:  Phillip Lyle, Dyle, Kevin, Fain, Barrend LeBeau; Kermit, Gilbert, Harlan Dean & Curtis Frazier; Laurent Jon Frenier; sister Lillian LeBeau Chase.

She will always be remembered for her strong mind, courage, ability to handle any situation and for her love of her Tribe, Native Issues and Lakota Culture.  She has many accomplishments which benefited our Tribe, therefore, Collette is dearly loved by many and will be greatly missed.

Luce Funeral Chapel of Eagle Butte has been entrusted with Colette’s arrangements.
