Dora Westerman

Dora Westerman, 84, of Harrold, passed away Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Maryhouse in Pierre.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 21, 2008 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Harrold with Pastor Brian Lemcke officiating. Burial was in Medicine Hill Cemetery, Harrold, directed by Luze Funeral Home of Highmore. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service at the church.

Dora was born December 31, 1923 to George Wallace and Alice (Hamilton) Beeler in Akron, Iowa. She attended rural country school in Iowa. On January 10, 1950, she married Harold Westerman. After their marriage they lived in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. In 1962, they moved to Pierre, South Dakota. While living in Pierre, Dora worked as a waitress at the Holiday Inn and Kings Inn. In 1973, the family moved to Harrold, South Dakota where they owned and operated the Harrold Club and Cafe. In July of 2005, Harold passed away and Dora moved back to Pierre and in September of 2006, she moved into the Maryhouse.

She was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Harrold. Dora enjoyed embroidering, cooking, baking and attending auctions and rummage sales. She always liked to make special treats for her grandchildren.

Grateful to have shared in her life are her children: Steve (Sandra) Westerman of Texas, Ben (Althen) Westerman of Pierre, S.D., Diane (Steve) Novak of Onida, S.D., and Sharon (Mike) Gunderson of Bowdle, S.D.; daughter-in-law: Atheleen Westerman of Pierre, S.D.; eight grandchildren; and fifteen great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; children: Larry and Janelle; two grandchildren; three great grandchildren; two brothers: Eldon and George; three sisters: Iva, Lillian, and Dorothy; one half brother: Ray and two half sisters: Mary and Edna.

Pallbearers were Terry Duffel, Jed Douglas, Keith Garrigan, Printiss Sizzer, Loren Skinner, and Lance Gunderson.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Dora's arrangements.
