Kay Ann Elfrink, 66, of Beresford and formerly of rural Highmore, passed away Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at her home.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2013 at Our Savior Lutheran Church, Highmore with Pastor David Peterson officiating.  Visitation was held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Monday, March 4, 2013 with a 7:00 p.m. prayer service, all at the church.

Kay Ann was born August 1, 1946 in Miller, SD to Elmer and Lorine (Roche) Bucher. She attended St. Liborius Grade School and graduated from Polo High School with the Class of 1964. She enrolled at NW College of Commerce in Huron for a short time before she became a nurse’s aide for a year at the Miller hospital. After which she was a lab and x-ray assistant, outpatient and ambulance driver for the Redfield Community Hospital for five years.

In 1972 she was employed in quality control for Tupperware in Jerome, Idaho. She spent a year caring for Grandma Haneke in 1973 and then worked for UPS.

On December 20, 1975 Kay Ann and Larry Elfrink, son of Earl and Helen Elfrink of rural Highmore were married in Reno, Nevada.  To this union, three sons were born:  Zane Lee born November 3, 1976; Rex Alan born May 16, 1978 and Cody Dean born August 23, 1984.  They made their home in northwest Hyde County.  In 2008, she moved to Beresford.

Kay was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church at Sedgwick of rural Highmore, an active 4-H leader, and supporter of the Children’s Home.  In her free time, she enjoyed wood working and working with leather.

Her memory will be cherished by her three sons: Zane (Tara) Elfrink of Sioux Falls and their children, Halie and Xzavier; Rex Elfrink of Belle Fourche and Cody Elfrink of Rockham; and one brother, Mike Bucher of Maryland.

Kay Ann was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Larry in 2006; two sisters, Vonna Gail Schlechter and Barbara Jean Haneke; one brother, Steve Bucher; and one niece, Lori Bucher.

Luze Funeral Home of Highmore has been entrusted with Kay’s arrangements.
